Last year I yielded my space in this column to Alabaster Snowball, Santa’s elf who shared his PhD dissertation with us, and you were spared the agony of having me butcher another Christmas classic. No such luck this year.
Read on as I happily brutalize “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”, a familiar tune written in 1951 by Music Man author Meredith Willson and recorded by such luminaries as Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Michael Bublé. Sincere apologies to all!
#####
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go
Take a look in the service truck and get the gauges all unstuck
And get your tools arranged so you won’t be slow.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Parts for every call
But the critical piece to keep, is the tech in the front seat
So you do it all.
A MERV 13 in the rack and a drain for the stack
Is wanted by Barbie and Ken
Additives to stir and motors that whir
Are earmarked for Teller and Penn
And the dispatcher is having to do it all again.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
See the crane under power, lifting the cooling tower
As long as the wind doesn’t start to blow.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
The pipefitters toil
So the heat can always be beat
Now take a seat as the cider comes to a boil.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Parts for every call
But the critical piece to keep, is the tech in the front seat
So you do it all
Time for holly in the hall.

P.S. Don’t forget to put that seasonal wrap on the hood of your service truck!
