AABC Commissioning Group (ACG), a non-profit association of certified commissioning authorities dedicated to the advancement of professional, independent commissioning services through education, training, and certification of qualified architects and engineers, will present its seventh annual Conference on Total Building Commissioning April 13-15 in St. Louis.
The keynote address, “Smart Buildings and the Future of Commissioning,” will be delivered by nationally recognized technology expert Michael Rogers. Known as “The Practical Futurist,” Rogers has consulted with many Fortune 500 companies, including FedEx, Boeing, Dow Corning, GE, and Genentech, about planning for the future. He is completing a two-year tenure as “futurist in residence” for The New York Times, writes a regular column for Newsweek, and is a frequent guest on radio and television programs.
The conference program also includes:
• A review of proposed changes to the commissioning requirements of LEED 2012, presented by H. Jay Enck, CxAP, chair of the subcommittee drafting the changes.
• Discussion of the theory and practice of commissioning lighting controls by lighting-technology experts Kostas Papamichael, PhD, of the California Lighting Technology Center and Francis Rubinstein, PhD, of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
• A session on tailoring commissioning to health-care projects, presented by Rusty Ross, PE, CxA, an author of The American Society for Healthcare Engineering of the American Hospital Association’s "Health Facility Commissioning Guidelines."
• Explanation of the principles and processes behind building-envelope commissioning.
• A presentation on identifying and quantifying measures to conserve energy and improve facility performance, presented by Andrew Heitman, CxA, of Building Energy Sciences LLC.
Additional presentations will include "Software Solutions for Ongoing Commissioning," "Commissioning of Active Chilled Beams," and "Measurement and Verification: Procedures and Methods."
Prior to the conference, ACG will offer its CxA Workshop and Exam for those pursuing certification or simply interested in an in-depth review of the details and philosophy of the commissioning process.
