If you manage a building that features an IT company, you know just how much goes into keeping the servers at a proper temperature. If they get too hot or too cold, it could end up costing thousands of dollars in replacements and repairs. A great building air conditioning system is absolutely necessary.
A blog post on Computerworld went into this, speaking of a situation where an IT professional went into a situation where a lot of money was being put into keeping servers inside cool and servers outside warm enough.
"Another person asked about the expense of that and the answer was that it was a tremendous cost. She said the strange thing was that the building had windows that could be opened, and when she asked why they didn't just open a few, the trainer couldn't answer her.
"Later in the week, she noticed several windows were open -- and the building was much colder than having the AC units running."
In situations like this, it is important to remember that sometime the simplest solution is the one that goes unused. When trying to keep servers cool, air conditioning can be a great tool, but never forget to use the natural elements to your advantage.
