Continuing my unpleasant tradition of the past four Yuletides (the Grinch made me do it!), I’m sorry to say that I’ve once again butchered a well-know and beloved Christmas classic. Apologies to the memories of composers Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane.
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" was introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 MGM musical Meet Me in St. Louis (original lyrics in brackets):
Have yourself a merry AC Christmas
[Have yourself a merry little Christmas]
Let your ducts be tight
[Let your heart be light]
From now on your service calls all will be at night
[From now on your troubles will be out of sight]
Have yourself a merry AC Christmas
[Have yourself a merry little Christmas]
Make the clients pay
[Make the Yuletide gay]
Be sure the Freon you do accurately weigh
[From now on your troubles will be miles away]
Here we are as in summer days
[Here we are as in olden days]
Happy warmer days before
[Happy golden days of yore]
Service customers who need us
[Faithful friends who are dear to us]
Now reach out to us once more
[Gather near to us once more]
Hard we work now before the fair weather
[Through the years we all will be together]
Using our know-how
[If the fates allow}
That all is well in the air-conditioned space
[Hang a shining star upon the highest place]
So have yourself a merry AC Christmas
[So have yourself a merry little Christmas]
Have yourself a merry AC Christmas
[Have yourself a merry little Christmas]
So have yourself a merry AC Christmas.
[So have yourself a merry little Christmas]
My lyrics are whimsical, but my wishes to you and yours for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year are most sincere!
