The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recently announced that Addendum r to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2007, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, is open for a second public review, which will conclude at midnight U.S. Eastern Time on Oct. 26.

The first public-review draft of Addendum r removed a method of complying with the standard's indoor-air-quality procedure by designing a ventilation system in the same way as in a successful existing building. Based on comments from the first public review, the method was put back into the standard, but with new restrictions, including a requirement that a mass-balance analysis of building air quality be performed.

Open for a fourth public review during the same time period is Addendum g, which adds information on using demand-controlled-ventilation systems.
