AABC Commissioning Group (ACG) will hold its next commissioning-authority (CxA) workshop and certification exam Saturday, June 27, at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta.

The five-hour workshop will include discussion of the commissioning process as described in the ACG Commissioning Guideline, as well as skills, strategies, and communication and documentation protocols essential to applying the commissioning process on real-world projects. The workshop also will provide final preparation for candidates taking the ACG certification exam, which will be administered to approved candidates that day from 2-5 p.m.

The CxA exam is a three-hour, closed-book test consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions on elements of the commissioning process, as well as building systems and how commissioning fits in with the construction process. To prepare for the exam, candidates are strongly encouraged by ACG to thoroughly study the ACG Commissioning Guideline, which can be downloaded free of charge in PDF form or purchased in print form at www.commissioning.org/commissioningguideline/.

Certification as a CxA requires active company membership in ACG. Certification is open to professional engineers, architects, and others with demonstrated commissioning experience who work for qualified independent commissioning companies with no affiliation with general or installing contractors, manufacturers of systems or equipment, or other entities that present significant potential conflicts of interest.

Attendees pursuing certification must register and submit certification applications at least 21 days prior to the event. To download an application, go to www.commissioning.org/membershipcertification/applications.aspx.

The CxA workshop counts as five American Institute of Architects learning-unit (LU)/health-safety-and-welfare (HSW) hours. All attendees will receive a certificate of completion following the workshop.

The workshop is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cost is $650, which includes the workshop, CxA application and exam, breakfast, and lunch.

To register, go to www.commissioning.org/membershipcertification/upcomingworkshopswebinars.aspx.
