ASHRAE Addresses Role of HVACR Systems in Infectious-Disease Transmission

$500 Million Announced for Clean-Energy Projects

Marking a milestone in the effort to spur private-sector investments in clean energy and create new jobs for U.S. workers, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Energy Secretary Steven Chu have announced $502 million in the first round of awards from an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act program that provides cash assistance to energy-production companies in place of earned tax credits. The new funding creates additional upfront capital, enabling companies to create jobs and begin construction that may have been stalled. [MORE]

AMCA International Elects New President

Vice president and general manager of Construction Specialties Inc., a specialty building-products company, Art LaPointe was elected president of Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International at the association’s 54th annual meeting in Quebec, Canada. ASHRAE Competition Gives Students Design Experience

The 2009 ASHRAE Student Design Competition, which encourages students to become more involved with their chosen major through practical design, saw its largest number of entries to date. The competition featured a 15,650-sq-ft office building with first-floor parking, second-floor retail and office space, and third-floor offices. Among the 32 schools that submitted entries, three stood out as first-place winners in the competition’s three categories. [MORE]
