"The new user's manual ... helps guide practitioners ... by explaining the intent of provisions in the standard and how they apply to buildings through not only written word, but also illustrations and example problems," Steve Skalko, chair of the Standard 90.1 committee, said. "The latest edition of the manual ... identifies what changes have taken place since the 2007 edition and, through use of calculations and examples, tells how the new provisions apply."

The cost of Standard 90.1-2010 User's Manual is $84 for ASHRAE members and $99 for non-members. To order, call ASHRAE Customer Service at 1-800-527-4723 (United States and Canada) or 404-636-8400, or visit www.ashrae.org/bookstore.

In other news, ASHRAE recently announced that ANSI/ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2009, Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, has been adopted as part of the U.S. Army’s new sustainability policy.

"We are on a path to integrating energy and sustainability considerations into our fundamental way of thinking as we progress toward net-zero energy, water, and waste in buildings and installations," Katherine Hammack, assistant secretary of the Army for installations, energy, and the environment, said.
