AHRI Releases July Heating- and Cooling-Equipment Shipment Data

According to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), commercial-gas-water-heater shipments increased 25 percent in July 2010 to 6,896 units, compared with 5,523 units shipped in July 2009. Commercial-electric-water-heater shipments increased 24 percent in July 2010 to 5,642 units, up from 4,555 units shipped in July 2009.

Year-to-date, U.S. shipments of commercial gas water heaters increased 7 percent to 48,998 units, compared with 45,854 units shipped during the same period in 2009. Year-to-date, commercial-electric-water-heater shipments increased 4 percent to 35,262 units, up from 33,870 units shipped during the same period in 2009.

Warm-Air Furnaces
U.S. shipments of gas warm-air furnaces for July 2010 increased 3 percent to 167,113 units, up from 162,027 units shipped in July 2009. Oil warm-air furnace shipments increased 8 percent to 3,286 units in July 2010, up from 3,057 units shipped in July 2009.

Year-to-date, U.S. shipments of gas warm-air furnaces increased 16 percent to 1.2 million units, compared with 1 million units shipped during the same period in 2009. Year-to-date, U.S. shipments of oil warm-air furnaces increased 15 percent to 24,777 units, compared with 21,526 units shipped during the same period in 2009.

Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps
U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 510,567 in July 2010, down 10 percent from 568,197 units shipped in July 2009. U.S. shipments of air conditioners decreased 13 percent to 358,871 units, down from 411,733 units shipped in July 2009. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps decreased 3 percent to 151,696 units, down from 156,464 units shipped in July 2009.

Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 2 percent to 2.3 million units, up from 2.2 million units shipped during the same period in 2009. The year-to-date total for heat-pump shipments increased 6 percent to 1.1 million units, up from 1 million units shipped during the same period in 2009.
