Johnson Controls, a provider of security and fire-safety solutions, is the recipient of the 2009 Security Distributing Marketing (SDM) Systems Integrator of the Year Award. According to SDM magazine, the company was selected for its leadership as a single-source provider for systems integration to customers around the world.

The SDM award announcement highlights the company's global strategy through customer case studies, including Camana Bay, a mixed-use planned community in Grand Cayman. The company recently integrated multiple systems from security management and digital-video surveillance to fire alarms and building management through a single Internet-protocol network. Similar solutions have been provided to universities, airports, hotels, corporate campuses, hospitals, and government facilities worldwide.

The award comes on the heels of the company's global reorganization and strategy plan announced in 2008. Through a three-pronged focus on integrated security technologies and solutions, targeted global outreach, and an emphasis on customers, the company's customer base increased to more than 50,000 businesses worldwide.

The company's approach to systems integration includes silos, such as physical security, information security, information-technology systems, building automation, and business applications, that allow the systems to work collaboratively and efficiently.
