November Heating-and-Cooling-Equipment Shipment Data Released

According to the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), November 2009 brought commercial gas water heaters a 16-percent increase in shipments from 4,910 units in November 2008 to 5,691 units in November 2009. However, shipments of commercial electric water heaters dropped 10 percent in November 2009 to 3,864 units, compared with 4,292 units in November 2008.

Warm Air Furnaces
November brought gains for gas and oil warm-air furnaces. Gas warm-air furnaces had a 15-percent shipment gain to 231,108 units, up from 200,502 units shipped in 2008. In November 2009, oil warm-air furnaces shipments increased 55 percent to 7,704 units, up from 4,979 units shipped in November 2008.

Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps

The total number of U.S. factory shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps in November 2009 was 283,360 units, 100,816 of which were heat pumps.
