New Products: September 2013

Aug. 26, 2013
Products of interest to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning engineers.
Single-zone compact cassettes
RLFCC and RLFCD single-zone compact cassettes and slim duct systems are well-suited for hospital and dorm rooms and office suites. The units previously were available only when paired with a multizone outdoor condensing system; when coupled with a single-zone heat pump or air-conditioning unit, the 9,000-, 12,000-, and 18,000-Btu air handlers fit a wider range of installations. The systems operate optimally with ambient temperatures as low as -5°F. The ceiling cassette unit fits conveniently into the space of a standard 22.5-in ceiling tile. —FujitsuExpanded chiller line
The Evergreen 19XR, XRV line of centrifugal chillers has been expanded to include two-stage compression technology, providing building owners the choice of one or two stages to tailor solutions to sites. The product line now offers units from 800 to 1,600 tons. The chil-lers can achieve integrated part-load values as low as 0.31 kw per ton and can be configured to meet individual building and system design needs. —CarrierEmergency communication system
The First Command emergency communication system (ECS) is designed to seamlessly interface with virtually any commercial fire alarm to provide a system for broadcasting live and pre-recorded general messages and emergency alerts. By leveraging the code-required intelligible, survivable, fully supervised qualities of new and existing fire-alarm systems, First Command is designed to offer small, standalone facilities an economical, reliable ECS. As many as 14 pre-recorded messages can be customized for a facility to utilize for emergency alerts, as well as day-to-day notifications. —Honeywell UVC light fixture
The Stinger UV-C fixture is designed to efficiently destroy surface microbes and organic materials that can impede HVAC-system efficiency and cause poor indoor-air quality. The low-voltage unit mounts from the exterior and requires no interior unit access, making it well-suited for hard-to-access HVAC equipment of up to 5 tons. —UVResourcesVRF water-source units
The variable-refrigerant-flow (VRF) modular water-source units WR2- (heat recovery) and WY-Series (heat pump) have been updated. The units are smaller and lighter than previous models and incorporate plate-type heat exchangers. Both systems operate in either cooling or heating modes. They are designed for buildings with closed boiler-water-tower or geothermal-loop systems. The WY-Series is available in units of up to 30 tons, while the WR2-Series is available in units of up to 20 tons. Both series can connect to up to 50 indoor units. —Mitsubishi Electric US Cooling & Heating DivisionFully modulating boilers
The Modulex EXT boiler series is comprised of units with capacities ranging from 321 MBH to 1,123 MBH, operating efficiencies of up to 99 percent, and turndown ranges from 7:1 to 24.5:1. The boilers’ design incorporates multiple high-capacity, low-emissions burners. Each 160,500-Btuh thermal module operates independently to increase turndown range, and the simultaneous low-fire-operation design helps maximize operating efficiency. The design also establishes built-in redundancy to enhance uptime reliability. Installation flexibility allows multiple units to be easily co-located for applications requiring up to 1 million Btuh. The units can be integrated via Modbus communications protocol to a facilitywide energy-management system or building-automation system. —AERCOTankless water heater
The NPE-S (Navien Premium Efficiency–Standard) tankless, gas water heater delivers efficiencies of up to 0.98 Energy Factor. It is well-suited for commercial applications where a buffer tank and internal recirculation pump are not required. Standard features include ½-in. gas pipe capability up to 24 ft, dual stainless-steel heat exchangers, field gas convertibility, and 2-in. PVC venting of up to 60 ft. —Navien
