I find clarity in the strangest places. Attempting to find my way home post-Snowmageddoen, I was cooling my heels in an airport terminal, pondering the never-ending wonders I had witnessed during three days of excitement at the 2011 International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo) held Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas. Obama Plans to Make U.S. Businesses More Energy-Efficient
In his State of the Union address, President Obama laid out his vision for investing in innovative clean-energy technologies and doubling the share of electricity from clean-energy sources by 2035. Additionally, President Obama is proposing new efforts to improve energy efficiency in commercial buildings across the country. Last year, commercial buildings consumed approximately 20 percent of all energy in the U.S. economy. President Obama’s Better Buildings Initiative will make commercial buildings 20 percent more energy-efficient over the next decade by catalyzing private-sector investment through a series of incentives to upgrade offices, stores, schools and other municipal buildings, universities, hospitals, and commercial buildings. ASHRAE Announces Updated Energy-Savings Figures for Standard 90.1-2010
According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), more than 30-percent energy savings can be achieved using the recently published ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2010, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, vs. the 2004 version.
