An intensive three-day workshop focusing on fundamental and technical aspects of HVAC design for high-performance commercial buildings is being offered by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Learning Institute.

"HVAC Design Essentials: Tools for High Performance Building Designers" will be held May 18-20 at the ASHRAE Headquarters Foundation Learning Center in Atlanta.

Led by Julia Keen, associate professor of architectural engineering and construction science at Kansas State University, and Joel Primeau, director of sustainable design for Genivar in Ontario, Canada—both ASHRAE members, licensed engineers, and ASHRAE-certified High-Performance Building Design Professionals—the workshop will address the skill set required by designers of the future, techniques for interacting effectively with all members of an integrated design team, the economics of sustainable buildings, the skills needed to design high-performance buildings, and more.

Attendees will receive a copy of ANSI/ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2009, Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, and the Standard 189.1-2009 User's Manual.

Professional-development hours and continuing-education units will be available.

The cost to register is $989 for ASHRAE members and $1,239 for non-members. For groups of three or more from the same employer who enroll at the same time, the cost is $889 per person.
